A mixture of spices for mulled wine
Mulled wine is a hot drink made from wine, honey, spices and fruit.
The first recipes for mulled wine appeared in ancient Rome. The drink became really popular in the Scandinavian countries of medieval Europe. There, mulled wine with spices was served at Christmas markets and cooked at home. Centuries later, mulled wine spread across the continent.

Red table dry and semi-dry Merlot wines are well suited for mulled wine. Cabernet, Kindzmaraulli, Hwanchkara and others. The alcohol content according to the rules established in Germany should be 7-9%. It is better to refuse fortified wines as at their heating there is an unpleasant smell of alcohol that spoils impression of drink.
How to cook mulled wine
In 0.7 liters of wine add 15 g of mulled wine mixture and 3 tablespoons of bitter honey (in case of allergic reaction to bee products, honey can be replaced with four tablespoons of sugar), heat it on a steam bath to a temperature of 85-90C, infuse for 5- 10 min and filtered through a stainless steel sieve with a mesh size of 0.5-1 mm. To give the drink a pleasant fruity aroma during cooking, it is recommended to add diced fresh apples of aromatic varieties and a cube of lemon or orange peel to the wine.
We recommend following a few rules when making mulled wine:
- Mulled wine should not boil (prepare a drink on a steam bath);
- The wine should be heated until the white foam disappears;
- The temperature of the drink when serving should not exceed 70C;
- It is desirable to serve mulled wine in a dish that retains heat for a long time.
Storage conditions:
The mixture of Mulled Wine spices is stored in an airtight glass container in clean, dry, well-ventilated rooms with a relative humidity of 70-75% at a temperature not exceeding 20C.
